BILL DREW MEMORIAL SOCCERFEST 2024

Click here for a message from Bill Murphy-Dyson, Chair of Soccerfest - April 5 - 7, 2024

We are pleased to have 40 teams in 5 age divisions registered from BC, Alberta, Washington and Oregon. A complete list of teams and their uniform colours will be posted here:

There will be a beer garden, food truck Band and DJ at Topaz/Finlayson, so we hope teams will mix and mingle there.

The shortest break between games is 1 hour and 15 minutes. The drive between UVic and Topaz is less than 15 minutes – which gives 45 minutes to get your boots off and get to the car, drive to the other field, park and get boots on, leaving half an hour to warm up.

  • There are washrooms available at all fields:
    · Washroom building at Topaz + porta-potty near Finlayson parking/beer garden
    · CARSA building at UVic for Fields 2A, 2B and 3
    · Porta-potty at UVic Field 8

A message from Bill Murphy-Dyson, Chair of Soccerfest - April 5 - 7, 2024

The Bill Drew Memorial Soccerfest 2024 is scheduled for April 5, 6 and 7, 2024 in Victoria.

Registration forms have been sent out by our Registrar, David Nelles.

If you did not receive the registration form please use this online form

Unfortunately, the timing of Easter this year and field closures at Juan de Fuca where we have held the last two Soccerfests mean that we won’t be on the Westshore for 2024.

Luckily, our field scheduler, Hu Wallis, has secured fields at Finlayson in downtown Victoria as well fields at the University of Victoria and other sites if needed.

If you have questions, please email me at barristerbill@coxtaylor.ca.

We expect to welcome back teams from Oregon and Washington, Alberta and, of course, from all over British Columbia and our organizing team will be working on making the whole weekend a memorable experience for players AND their significant others!

Bill

SOCCERFEST UPDATE from Bill Murphy-Dyson Jan 31, 2024

Registration deadline is upon us and we have old and some new teams registered (thanks David). It’s going to be a great weekend. Hotel deals are on the website (thanks Calvin) and playing fields have been secured (thanks Hu). I have just received permission from the City of Victoria to make Topaz (also known as Finlayson) Park the HUB of this year’s Soccerfest.

What does “HUB” mean? It is the place where everyone visits, before and after their games. It’s where there are two grass fields and one and a half turf fields. It is where the BEER GARDEN (thanks Rob), the GREEK FOOD TRUCK, and the ENTERTAINMENT is located (in the lacrosse box). We welcome back the retro “BACK BEAT BAND” (backbeatentertainment.ca) on the Saturday from 1:00 to 5:00 pm and SENSATIONAL SOUND MUSIC DJ (thanks Keith) on the Sunday from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, with room left over in the lacrosse box for dancing!

A special feature this year will be a demonstration co-ed WALKING SOCCER scrimmage on the small turf pitch at Topaz on the Saturday between 1:00 and 3:00 pm (thanks Peter).

Also at the HUB will be the St. John Ambulance First Aid truck, just in case (thanks Gary).

All of the fields will be in the Victoria area, the furthest away being fields at the University of Victoria, all an easy drive to and from the HUB with easy-to-read maps on display at the fields and on this website (thanks Bill N. and Ron). Of course, nets and flags will be set up at each field (thanks Bob and Gus). Any questions, email me at barristerbill@coxtaylor.ca.

Remember, this is a fun soccer celebration. It is organized and presented entirely by our volunteers. Beer Garden proceeds will be used by the Juan de Fuca Club to purchase and give away bicycles to deserving kids in need. See you all in April!

Reduce – Reuse – Recycle

Welcome to Victoria – one of Canada’s top recycling cities!

We hope to promote green – both on and off the field!

Please recycle appropriately. We will be using the “Hillside Model” – all “items” are to be placed on the tables in front of the bins and then sorted into the correct bins. We would like one two players from each of the Victoria teams to assist in this regard throughout the tournament.

Bin labels: refundable (pop cans, beer bottles), plastics – hard, glass, paper/cardboard, plastic – soft (bags), compost (food, napkins, paper plates), garbage (none of the above).

Please distribute by email to your team members so that they are aware of the Soccerfest recycling program.

Thanks for your assistance!

Gary Garraway
