SVICSA Follows BC Soccer's Extreme Heat Guidelines
It is important to err on the side of caution if you are ever in doubt regarding the health and safety of participants. See BC Soccer's Extreme Heat Guidelines (PDF).
The BCSA's guidelines for extreme heat provide guidance for games and scrimmages. They set thresholds for considerations like adding extra water breaks, shortening duration and intensity, or cancelling altogether in extreme heat. It's important to bear in mind that older players are more susceptible to heat and dehydration, and make choices to protect players.
As an example of monitoring the heat situation and an appropriate response, during the 2021 heat wave the BC Government Employees Co-Ed Soccer Society decided to proceed with games on June 29 because temperatures were significantly lower than in previous days. Two water breaks of five minutes were provided, halfway through each half. The five minutes were deducted from each half. This protocol will be followed whenever game time temperatures exceed 25°C.
